Certero SAM Managed Services Drives £13m Oracle Licensing Risk Mitigation
A leading design and manufacturing organization with a good base understanding of their Oracle database estate, recognized the need to enhance their working knowledge of Oracle licensing and bring their compliance position up-to-date. They also identifies gaps in their knowledge when it came to other data center vendors such as IBM and Microsoft and needed a partner that could help them navigate the less familiar vendors.

The Certero Solution
Opting to focus on Oracle first and using Certero for Oracle (a formally verified Oracle LMS/GLAS technology solution on the Certero platform) the business worked with Certero to identify compliance risks. Certero’s in-house consultancy team were then able to significantly reduce potential exposure, by applying licensing knowledge to mitigate some of these areas.
Particularly relevant was the potential exposure caused by Database Options and Packs usage generated by 3rd party and Oracle Applications. Certero consultants were able to guide and advise how to approach licensing in these areas with minimal financial outlay.
Data insight from Certero also allowed the customer to gain visibility of their Fusion Middleware estate, identifying where products were running or installed and creating an optimization plan to reduce future core consumption.
An initial £2m Oracle risk-mitigation was achieved within two weeks providing rapid time-to-value and ROI for the customer. Certero also created a future plan to optimize Oracle licensing that will save the organization a further £11m, driven entirely by the data Certero provides and the managed service expertise that accompanies it.
